Eating out

We've listed some of the best places to eat both in Shanklin town and around the places of interest on the island.  Booking of these restaurants during bank holidays & June to September is strongley recommended, they are popular.  Many of these places do have outside eating facilites and some have sweeping sea views.

The Village Inn

The Village Inn offers a full range of beers, largers, wines & spirits plus lunchtime & evening meals in the heart of Shanklins' Old Village. Set in a beauiful stone and thatched roof building it offers some of the best food in the area.

Vernon Cottage

A cosy stone & half timbered restaurant in the centre of Shanklin old village.  Gardens and tea rooms are open throughout the day with live music and folk dancing in the summer months.

Pendletons

A first class restaurant in the heart of the old village. If good food and wine are on your list for your visit then this restaurant is a must. Re-opened in 2002 its top notch menu continues to attract many a celebrity.

The Black Cat

This is a Thai restaurant located in the old village. This is a licenced restaurant serving both traditional Thai food and those with a modern twist including vegetarian options.

Tommy Bradshaws

Formally Cavanagh & Baker now reopening in 2023 as Tommy Bradshaws.

Located in the beautiful area of Shanklin Old Village this property is under new ownership and has yet to host a webpage or even much on social media.  For inquiry's it's best to call on 01983 716610.

Pavarotti's

Italian cuisine. Experience the atmosphere of old Tuscany at Pavarotti's right here in the heart of Shanklin's Old Village. Serving traditional Italian food, with a great selection of wines and beer.

Fisherman's Cottage

This unique thatched pub situated on the beach at the foot of Shanklin Chine dates back to 1817. It is the ideal place to relax on the sea front and sample the varied menu and try the range of good real ale.

Paramount Cafe

This cafe offers good home cooked food at excellent prices. Generally open for breakfasts and afternoon meals. Check opening times on their Facebook page as they are rarely open in the evenings.

The Happy Haddock

This is the best fish and chip shop for miles! It is very popular so expect a wait of 20 to 30 minutes for you meal. It has both an inside seating area and a take a way service. A must if you love an English tradition.

The Crab

The Crab sits at the centre of Shanklin old villlage.  A very popular pub with picture postcard looks.  A variety of pub food is served daily with a good selection of specials and ales.  The entrance to Shanklin Chine & Rylstone gardens park are just past the pub enterance.

Dragon Pearl

Dragon Pearl Chinese restaurant based on the road to Lake but still in easy walking distance. Whether you are a regular customer or have never visited a Chinese restaurant before you'll enjoy a visit here. You can catch a glimpse of what is on offer throughout their website.

The Waterfront

This Bistro and Bar is situated in a superb location right on the seafront on Shanklin’s Esplanade, with panoramic sea views and just a stone’s throw from the sandy beach. This is a free house and offer a wide selection of Isle of Wight ales, lagers, wines & spirits, together with a straightforward, homely menu. 

The Steamer

The terrace at The Steamer Inn affords panoramic views across Sandown Bay to the English Channel. Situated right on Shanklin Esplanade, it’s a lovely spot to enjoy some of the Isle of Wight's best fresh seafood from the specials board or perhaps while away a relaxing afternoon. Enjoy an extensive wine list and fine selection of real ales and beers.

Benjamins Bar & Bistro

An excellent a Bar and Bistro serving good food and drink at very reasonable prices. From a hearty Breakfast to Classic lunchtime menu, then in the evening bring a touch of class to you dining experience.

Amici

This is Shanklin's newest Italian resturant.  Advertised it self as "Authentic italian restaurant; real italian pizza and pasta ,fresh fish and delicious meat".  

Cinnamon

This is one of two indian restaurants in Shanklin, this being the closest restaurant to The Richmond at less than one minute walk away in Regent Street.  After refirbishment it has now re-opened to invite those who are living on the Isle of Wight and those who are touring to come and enjoy the authentic Indian taste.

The House of Spice

The House of Spice is one of twn exellect indian restarants near by and serves a variety of Indian cuisine. Located in Shanklins' the main through road, the High Street, it's only one minutes walk from The Richmond. Food is served until quite late and is popular with our guests.  Phone :  01983 865999

The White Horse Whitwell

This is reputed to be one of the oldest pubs in England, we think it is one of the best on the island.  You my eat in or out and choose from an excellect menu of large or lite bite meals. Booking reccomended for indoor eating.

The White Lion - Arreton

This most people’s idea of an traditional English county pub.  This is a 200 year old stage coach staging inn, open seven day a week offering food from noon to 9pm.  The Wight Lion offers traditional fayre with daily specials and theme nights.

The Garlic Farm - Newchurch

The Garlic Farm's renowned shop and restaurant make for a unique and memorable visit. Learn about the history and origins of the farm in the Heritage centre. Taste the amazing range of garlic inspired products in the Taste Experience and enjoy exceptional gourmet food in the restaurant before picking up a few garlic goodies from the farm shop.

The Pointer Inn - Newchurch

Whether you visit for a beer or a bite to eat, you’ll always leave The Pointer with a smile on your face. Winner of numerous awards for fabulously fresh ales, and gained a great following through our deliciously different approach to pub food. Both in door and outdoor dinning is available.

The Crown Inn - Shorwell

Set next next to a trout filled stream and adjacent to thached cottages and village church this is everyones idea of a beautiful English village pub. Eat in or out and offering a good menu and ales.  Best to ring and book in spring & summer.  Tel: 01983 740293

Peddlers Cafe - Newchurch

Peddlers cafe is positioned just north of the village of Newchruch.  Located on the disused cycle path it provides an excellent resting point for those who are cycling or walking the Red Squirrel trail.  There is free car parking in the village of Newchurch and the cafe is in walking distance with a bit of a steep hill on the return trip.  Open in the day time only it's best to check their web site for opening times.

The Hungry Bear - Brading

Hungry Bear a family run restaurant based on Brading High Street. Stuart Downes Aka "The Bear" is at the helm, providing clear direction to his team of chefs, while his partner Dayna aka "Mumma Bear" Rallies the Front of House Team. 


The couple value delivering mega tasty food and attentive service. Food that is wholesome yet exciting, simple meals that are executed to extremely high standard. Old favourites reinvigorated with a modern twist. Expect dishes that are of a healthily portion size (no one ever leaves Hungry!)

 

Driving from Shanklin north through Brading thers's a pay & display carpark on the right just past the restaurant, so remenber to take some change.
